At a Glance:

Sheltering

  • On average, 300 homeless animals are in our care every single day
  • 4,953 animals cared for in FY17-18, 1,209 of which were rescued from crisis situations in smaller communities

  • We have an exceptional save rate of 97% for animals in our care
    • Save rate = number of animals adopted/transferred/placed divided by total animal outcomes (animals adopted/transferred/placed + animals humanely euthanized = total animal outcomes)

Adoptions

  • We are the largest adoption agency in Central Kentucky

  • On average, close to 5,000 animals are adopted every year

  • 4,522 animals adopted in FY17-18; 4,879 in FY16-17

    • Last year we adopted 2,631 dogs and puppies, 1,719 cats and kittens, and 172 “other” pets (bunnies, Guinea Pigs, pot belly pigs, and more!)
  • We encourage, promote, and support “adoption as the best option” when searching for a new pet—approximately half of our adopters are first-time adopters!
