Thanks for your interest in becoming an LHS volunteer!

Due to a busy season while being short-staffed, we are implementing new, temporary protocols at Lexington Humane Society. The volunteer program is temporarily suspended. Please check back in Fall 2022 for updated information.

As a nonprofit organization we rely on our volunteers to help us successfully fundraise and provide animal enrichment.  We’re happy you’re interested in joining our team!

Current volunteer opportunities for adults include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Officemates - clerical duties, including (but not limited to): fielding phone calls and answering general questions and interacting with visitors, staff, and the general public.
  • Housekeeping - helping with dishes and laundry
  • Special event preparation
  • Fundraising
  • Grounds work

Due to the high volume of volunteer inquiries, please allow us 2 weeks to contact you about your questionnaire, phone calls, or emails.

Our potential volunteers must do the following:

  1. Submit a volunteer questionnaire — All volunteers MUST complete a questionnaire. Once received, we will contact you to attend a volunteer orientation and training class.
  2. Attend both an Orientation AND Training Session at either location — Before you begin volunteering at LHS, we require that you:
Schedule an Orientation Session: We'll send you a confirmation email with possible orientation dates when your application is accepted.
Attend your scheduled Orientation and Training Sessions: This will be an informative session, so be prepared to learn and have your questions answered.
  3. Commit to Volunteering for a Minimum of 6 Hours a Month — With our flexible hours, you'll be able to tailor your volunteer experience around your schedule.
