These pups are set and excited for a day out of the shelter. 

Program Hours

Susan M. Malcomb Humane Campus Hours: You can check out a dog from 2 pm – 4 pm, Tuesday – Friday. Appointments are strongly encouraged, but not required. All dogs MUST be returned to our Susan M. Malcomb Humane Campus by 5 pm on the same day.

EAC in PetSmart Hours: You can check out a dog from 2 pm – 5 pm, Monday – Friday, and Sundays from 11 am – 2 pm. No appointment is required. All dogs MUST be returned to the EAC by 5 pm on the same day.

Please note: Our Check Me Out program may be closed on days with forecasted hot or inclement weather. You’re welcome to call 859-233-0044 before arriving to see if the program is currently open on the day you plan to visit.

Fill out the Waiver

To expedite the process, complete the application/waiver before you come in-person. *This waiver is only applicable to dogs at our Susan M. Malcomb Humane Campus.

FAQ

Review these commonly asked questions before you visit

A valid photo ID and a working cell phone.

  • A tumbler of water
  • Collapsible water bowl
  • Two leashes, a harness, and a collar
  • Treats & treat pouch
  • Waste bags
  • Seatbelt buckle
  • Air horn

Though one goal of this program is to socialize dogs awaiting adoption, safety is the key priority. Please refrain from taking your dogs to overly crowded places, or anywhere with lots of animals (ex. dog parks).

Some suggestions include:

  • An area with spacious trails such as Coldstream Park or The Arboretum (please note: McConnell Springs Park is not dog-friendly)
  • Dog-friendly businesses (avoiding peak hours)
  • Car rides
  • The Kentucky Horse Park

Yes! The primary person checking out the dog must be at least 18 years old. Children are welcome to accompany an adult (we require 1 adult per child).

To ensure the safety of all parties, personal pets must remain at home.

Yes. All dogs must travel in an enclosed vehicle (no truck beds, scooters, etc.).

Only one dog per vehicle is allowed unless approved by an associate.
