Honey, a 9 month old spaniel mix, arrived at the Lexington Humane Society (LHS) on Christmas Eve.
Honey had lived with a family who loved her, or so she thought. But when she was hit by a car and injured, her family decided the best thing to do would be to euthanize her, by shooting her three times. But her will to live was stronger than any bullet. Poor Honey wandered the cold streets for days before a kind soul brought her to LHS.
On Christmas Eve our on-staff veterinarian performed emergency surgery to amputate Honey's leg and repair her wounds. While in obvious pain, Honey continuously wagged her tail and gave kisses to all of our staff members who stopped by to wish her well. Dedicated staff members were lined up to provide foster care during her rehabilitation.
A week later, Honey was not only walking, but running and playing with other dogs in her foster home. We call her our Christmas Miracle! So that friends could share in her progress, Honey came to work with her foster mom every day.
The New Year brought hope and happiness to Honey by bringing here the biggest gift of all - a second chance! Honey has now been adopted into a forever family where she will feel the unconditional love and companionship she deserves. We are happy to report that Honey is flourishhing in her new home, and her new family says they can't imagine life without her!
