LOUIE This is Louie. I have had him for over a month and have not loved an animal more than I love him. He is without a doubt the most well behaved and well trained dog I have ever had. Louie is about 4 years old and the best sprited dog because he is really calm when we are hanging out and really engergetic when we go out on walks. When Louie gets really excited, he runs in circles and jumps up on his hind legs while looking at me, he even smiles when he is excited or relaxed. Louie is a very protective man, but is not a usual "yappy" dog. I cannot wait to go on further adventures with Louie and I look forward to coming home to him when I do not bring him places. I am so happy I adopted him and can honestly say he is blessing to my life. Kathleen Submitted by Kathleen Boskin. |

GUSTAV I adopted Gustav this fall, and already can't imagine my life without him. He is a kind, loyal and willing puppy. Due to his size, some people think he is grown up, but he is only 11 months old (give or take). We go through growing pains every now and then, but on the whole, he is a fantastic dog. Everyone -- from my friends, family and even Gustav's veterinarian -- has commented on how good he really is. It is rare a day goes by that his handsome good looks are not commented on or someone doesn't ask what breed his (All-American mutt!), where I got him (Lexington Humane Society!), or if they can have him (No!). Gustav loves squeaky toys but treats them gently and is the proudest of his stuffed squirrel, which I bought for him on our second day together. I don't know why someone dumped him out onto the streets, but every day I am thankful I ended up with him. Also, a shout out to whoever dubbed him "Gustav" at the shelter. I didn't have the heart to change it. When he is being silly, he answers to Goose, but at heart he is a Gustav through and through. Submitted by Amanda Duckworth. |

BUFFY This is Buffy playing with her new sushi toy. She is the perfect addition to my household and I love her more than I ever thought I could. She has the best temperament and she's my little buddy. She loves playing with ink pens, stealing them off my desk, and cuddling on the couch. She squeaks more than she meows (which is adorable). She is the exact match to my personality and I could not be more grateful to LHS for introducing us. :) Thank you for taking such good care of my girl! Submitted by Tiffany Kennedy. |

HUBERT The moment Hubert came into our home, our eldest dog, Phoebe, fell in love with him. She had never played with the other two dogs, but as soon as Hubert arrived, she was all over him and has been playing ever since. He's now won over our sedentary girl, Millie. He's got her running and playing, too. The moment he entered the house, it was like he had always been there. Like his personality, he jumped right in... and jumped right into our hearts. He is the most loving little guy ever. He wants to be snuggled up to us all the time. I can't imagine our lives without him, and now we don't have to. His three furry sisters love him so much and I know they would have been so disappointed if he had not become a permanent member of our family. He found his forever home with us. Yes, we are foster failures, but everyone wins with this one! Submitted by Kirstie Morgan.

KELSEY AND LEO We adopted Kelsey (the gray cat on the right), almost a year ago from the main campus. She was about 5 years old when we adopted her and had been at the society for some time. We picked her because of her "special purr" (she kind of sounds like a pigeon when she purrs) and she has been the most loving cat since the day we adopted her. We adopted Leo (formerly known as Lopez- the white and orange cat on the left) a few months ago, also on the main campus, as a companion for Kelsey. Although he is as big as Kelsey now he is still just a playful kitten. We expect he will be bigger than Kelsey in just a couple months. We also were drawn to Leo because of his uniqueness. Leo is a polydactyl, and has at least one extra toe on each paw. Some people might call them "strange" but we love our cats and would not change them for the world! Thank you LHS! I-CHAYA I adopted I-Chaya (the little black kitten formerly Jaxx) from LHS less than a year ago. He was a little stray that hardly weighed anything. I was going back to work and wanted another cat so that my other cat, Piggy (the grey fuzzy one), would not be lonely. I brought I-Chaya home and Piggy was not happy. But now they are constantly chewing on each other and playing and running down the hallway like little horses. The scary things was that I-Chaya turned out to be sick soon after he came home with me and we discovered that he has to have hypoallergenic food. But he’s a whopping 7.5 pounds now and will actually greet people instead of hiding in my room. I am so grateful that LHS found him and took care of him for me. I love both my kittens and am very happy and I think they are too. (They have me and my roommates trained)

JAWS
Dear Patrick and everyone at LHS, I am sending you this email about my recent adoption of a pitbull puppy named Boodle, whom now is named Jaws. I just wanted to update you guys and let you know how great he is doing and how happy he is and what a joy and blessing he has been for my entire family. At first when he came to his new home he was a little shy and unsure of himself but after a few days he made himself right at home and absolutley loves the country. He has a huge backyard and field to play in along with my female pitbull named Roxy. At first Roxy didnt like him but now they play all the time and are getting along great. They both sleep in my bed with me and my husband and Boodle AKA Jaws is very smart and has already learned a few tricks. We are still working on the house breaking thing but I think in a couple of more weeks he will be fine, every dog is different when it comes to house training. Anyway I just wanted to give you guys an update as I know everyone there really cares about each and every animal and wants to know each and everyone is adopted to a good home. I may be back soon as my mom is looking to adopt a dog as soon as she finds one to her liking. I have sent a few pictures to show how Boodle AKA Jaws is growing, he has almost doubled in size since I brought him home it seems. Submitted by Misty Burton. |

SOCRATES
Hello! I just wanted to update you guys on Socrates (Formerly Reginald)! It's been a little over a week since I adopted him, and he is just the best! He is my reason to wake up in the morning. Walking him, seeing the sunrise, getting fresh air, and getting puppy kisses is the best way to start every day. He has been my stress reliever and is fast becoming my favorite best friend. The vet gave him a clean bill of health and says he is a Basenji mix. He is pretty quiet, likes his crate and hasn't had any accidents in the house! Thank you for taking care of my baby before I could.

LANDO
We adopted Lando (formerly Midnight) in July. The day we visited the Humane Society, I wasn’t sure if I was ready for a new pet. In the month leading up to that, we had just lost our 10 ½ year old Shar Pei and our 7 ½ year old St. Bernard, and I really didn’t know if I was ready to love a pet again. But seeing that little black dog in that big cage, I had to at least ask about him. The staff at LHS were so knowledgeable and compassionate with us, and after spending time in the get acquainted room, I knew he was supposed to be ours. I really can’t even express how much Lando already means to our family. He has so much excitement and personality. I don’t think I’ve ever met a dog with the heart that he has. I’m just so thankful that we went to LHS that day and that he came into our lives!

HOOVER
This is Hoover (formerly Buck), who came to the Lexington HS as a stray. He was so sad and lonely when we first saw him and took him to the "get acquainted" room, keeping his tail tucked and looking so nervous. Boy did he blossom once we brought him home! He went from a shy, scared pup to a hilarious, energetic, healthy boy who loves walks, chasing sticks in the backyard and sleeping snuggled into his blankets. Thank you so much for finding and caring for him so we could adopt such a sweet boy!

LUCAS Hello! My name is Lucas and I was adopted from the Lexington Humane Society about two months ago. I enjoy my new home(s) and I travel a lot with my dad. So far I have been to Ohio, Kentucky, Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Oklahoma, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Louisiana, Alabama, and Pennsylvania. That's 16 states in total. I like to snuggle under blankets and play. I now have a favorite ball (a blue rubber one) and tug o' war rope (red and white). I have a new best friend, also! He is a 5 year old yellow lab mix named Ace. I love to meet new people and everyone loves me! I wanted to check in to say hi and tell you that I'm doing GREAT!! Submitted by Cassandra Linkey. |

JESSE Our family adopted Jesse from LHS 10 years ago after the passing of the family cat. Jesse was an 8-week-old owner give-up, and he has been the perfect dog for our family! Jesse loves to go for walks and to ride in the car, and loves having his belly rubbed. He is one of the smartest dogs we have ever met, and knows a long list of tricks! Jesse has meant the world to us for the past ten years, and hopefully for ten more to come! Submitted by The Coovert Family. |

LARRY
Attached is a picture of Larry ready for trick-or-treat. As you can see he is smiling. Larry came to us from LHS and kept us smiling and laughing. My husband credits him for saving our marriage early on by giving me a different male in the house to worry about. In his final years he stayed by John’s side the whole time he was recovering from surgery. Larry was truly my soul dog. We lost him last week after 13 years, but he will always be in our heart. He was the best dog we could have ever wanted. Submitted by Janie Fergus and John Meyers . |

MAX
I adopted Max through your organization a couple of years ago. Max is a mixed breed who was supposed to have been a terrier mix, however. his vet says he is a dachsund/cocker spaniel mix and I agree. For many years I fostered English Springer Spaniels with much love but when I was no longer able (due to health problems) to handle a large breed I elected to retire and adopt a small dog of my own, thus Max.
Max is absolutely the best behaved dog I have ever had. He loves the entire family including his best friend "Seth", my daughters springer. Although, when together they look like Mutt and Jeff, they get along great! I could not be more pleased with my adoption and encourage everyone to consider adoption of a mixed breed.
Max was listed as not friendly with other dogs. With some trepidations I went ahead with his adoption. I needed my dog to get along with (at that time) both of my daughters springers. Especially since one of her springers was an aggressive alpha. No problem, the three of them were a perfect match. Actually the alpha preferred Max and treated him better than her own house mate. He does not get along with other large dogs. So we just avoid the dog park! Another interesting aspect of Max is his relationship with the large dog next door. They actually communicate through the fence, warbling, cuffing and high pitched noises. Both noses against the fence. Max will then come in and beg for a treat. When I try to give it to him he will race back outside to the fence and look back to make sure I am coming. He does want the treat but he wants one for "Wally" next door as well. There is no doubt that Max and Wally are communicating.
Now Max and I are buddies and snuggle. He has a happy home and I have a wonderful companion. Thank You for bringing Max and I together. I am enclosing a picture of Max with one of his toys. A proper caption could be "Make my day. Try to get my toy!" Submitted by MaryAnn Barill. |

LEXI My roommates and I adopted Dori, now Lexi in 2009. Lexi is a dream dog. She is loyal, intelligent and everyone’s best friend! She is so friendly and everyone who meets her comments on how sweet she is. When we got Lexi, my dad had recently passed away, and she filled the void immediately and completely. Lexi is not just my dog, she is my daughter, my best friend. I couldn’t have gotten luckier with my first dog and I am so thankful that the Lexington Humane Society and LFACC took care of my baby before I could! Submitted by Julie Watkins. |

LIBBY LOU "On night in early July 2003, at age 2, Libby Lou was dropped at the Lexington Humane Society with her seven puppies. She was a very frightened little dog and very protective of her puppies. Luckily, Susan Malcomb was asked to foster Libby and two of her puppies who survived the ordeal. At the time, I was Susan's neighbor and was always checking out the foster pups at Susan's home. When I saw Libby, I knew I had to have her. It was love at first sight. Libby has brought so much love and joy into our home and spoiling her is our favorite pastime. A really good day for her is going for a ride in the car which happens almost every day. On August 29th, we celebrated the 8th Anniversary of Libby's adoption with our family. Submitted by Nila Wells. |

KHLOE AND LAMAR Me and my girlfriend adopted 2 bonded dogs named Lamar and Khloe around 3 weeks ago. They are doing really well. They had been through the training program at the prison, but it had been 8+ months since they got back so I wasn't sure if they'd still remember the training. They took to being potty trained within a day, and they knew how to sit, lay, and walk on a leash without pulling. I have some pictures of them for you all. I take them to the dog park frequently and have gone hiking a couple times with them also.

DEACON BISHOP
Last week I adopted this 8 week old sweet little man. He has brought such joy into our lives. He is adjusting well to his new home. We changed his name to “Deacon Bishop”. He is a very smart little guy, which has made for easy training at this point. In a short week he has learned to sit, lay, shake, and rollover. His favorite things are to play outside, and then to snuggle up for a nice little nap. Thank you all so much for allowing me to bring this angel into our home. He is loved so much and is a very happy puppy! Submitted by Trevecca Walters

RAMONA I adopted Ramona (formerly named Carolina) from LHS a few weeks ago on Fabulous Feline Friday. She is a wonderful cat with the sweetest personality I have ever known. She is a constant purrbox and loves nothing more than to snuggle up next to you (or on you!) and doze off. She gets along great with our dogs and currently rules the roost. Thank you so much to LFACC and LHS for rescuing my little angel from the streets! Submitted by Emily Coovert. |

SATINE I have to share the adoption story on how I found and adopted Satine. My husband and I were not really looking at the time to adopt a pet. We decided that we were only going to go to look at the animals and that was it. My husband had always wanted a dog so I figured if we ever got a animal that would be the choice. The both of us came across Satine and fell in love the moment we laid eyes on her. I have ALWAYS wanted a black cat and never was able to own one. My husband changed his mind on wanting a dog and ended up wanting Satine! She was so loving when we first got to pet her and knew as soon as we had our interaction with her that she was the one. I rarely come across a cat as loving as she is. She is so playful and her company is the best. I fell pretty ill when we first got her, and she has not once left my side. She is right next to me watching me as I type this. I am sure she knows that I am talking about her haha! I am truly happy and lucky we went and found her when we did. She has become not only just a pet but family in such a short amount of time. Submitted by Ann Houston. |

SNOWIE AND SCARLETT This is my story about adopting two of the best pets that ever graced the doors of the Humane Society. This is Snowie and Scarlett orginally E.T. The name didn't suit her and she reminded me of Scarlett O'Hara, she doesn't let anyone push her around. Snowie is an albino rat and Scarlet is a hairless rat. I originally went to the Humane Society looking for a cat and then settling on just wanting Scarlett but I was told that they were a bonded a pair and had to take both. I had no problems with this because he needed a home too. Each day is such a joy, they love to eat, play and sleep. They especially love their yogurt drops and playing in the ferret toys. Thanks to everyone at the Humane Society who took care of my babies. Submitted by Jennifer Gulett. |
